BODY
Rigid PHBH/PHBBlow-mouldability, barrier and ductility to be developed
TO BE TESTEDMATERIAL · PLATFORM TO BE QUALIFIED
AQUA-PHA identifies a development platform based on the PHBH/PHB family. The commercial grade, process, food-contact safety and end-of-life scenario must be qualified before any industrial commitment.

DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVE
PET benefits from a mature supply chain and well-understood performance. The PHA family is being assessed for its bio-based origin and potential end-of-life scenarios through comparison based on purchasable resin, real processing and location-specific LCA.
Bio-based, biodegradable, compostable and recyclable each require separate verification.
MATERIAL ARCHITECTURE
Blow-mouldability, barrier and ductility to be developed
TO BE TESTEDIntegral hinge, actuator and dual seal
TO BE TESTEDReversible, markable macro-part
TO BE TESTEDSealed film, air pocket and microtexture
TO BE TESTED2–5 µm solid film; no free oil
TO BE TESTEDProtected and encapsulated external system
TO BE TESTEDQUALIFICATION CRITERIA
Can the thermal window support preform production and blow moulding without degradation?
Can the body withstand a 4 °C drop without brittle fracture?
Does water shelf life remain compatible with market requirements?
Does the surface remain neutral, dry-feeling and transfer-free?
Do the grade, additives, oligomers and NIAS meet applicable limits?
Does the integral hinge exceed the required cycle life?
Is there a viable destination in the intended sales territory?
FOOD CONTACT · EU
PHBH appears in EU legislation for plastic food-contact materials, subject to defined conditions of use and a migration limit for oligomers below 1,000 Da. The complete bottle still requires testing of the actual grade, coating and ThermoSnow system.
MATERIAL GATES
DSC, TGA, MFR, rheology, tensile and impact testing
Preform, blow moulding, wall distribution and scrap
AeroSkin, ThermoSnow, hinge and SoftFold
Migration, NIAS, organoleptic testing and shelf life
